NBA reinstates Andersen after drug suspension
The NBA reinstated Chris Andersen from a drug suspension on Tuesday, and the New Orleans Hornets will have the first chance to sign their former player. Andersen was kicked out on Jan. 27, 2006, for violating the league's drug policy. Since he was "dismissed and disqualified" for a specific violation, he was forced to wait two years to apply for reinstatement. Anderson's rights belong to the Hornets, provided they offer him a contract in the next 30 days, which they are expected to do.

Cassell will attend the Celtics shootaround Wednesday morning, but isn't expected to play when they host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. "I'm in no hurry," coach Doc Rivers said after practice Tuesday. "We'll have some time to work on things in the next few days." The 38-year-old Cassell averaged 12.
Heat expect Wright back next year

Speaking one day after Wright underwent season-ending surgery to repair a left knee tear, Riley said the 6-foot-9 forward will be ready for the start of training camp. And even though Wright is set to become a restricted free agent, the Heat has no plans to let him leave. "I think it'd be a foolish option" to let Wright leave," Riley said.

Warriors coach Don Nelson said Webber, who left a win Sunday over Portland after eight minutes, plans to stay in Atlanta to rehab and could sit out the final three games of Golden State's current road trip. The Phoenix Suns signed guard Gordan Giricek on Tuesday to a contract for the rest of the season. Giricek, waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, joins his fifth NBA team. The 6-foot-6 Croatian played parts of six seasons with Memphis, Orlando and Utah before being traded to Philadelphia last Dec. 29. Suns general manager Steve Kerr called the 30-year-old Giricek "an excellent shooter, a solid defender and a proven playoff performer." He shot a career-best 42.
