Carlisle, Mavericks closing in on deal
Rick Carlisle is still on the verge of becoming the next coach of the Dallas Mavericks. Carlisle is the only candidate the team has interviewed since firing Avery Johnson last Wednesday. Negotiations turned serious over the weekend and have continued all week, but as of Wednesday night there were some points still not settled.
Report: Mavs, Carlisle Getting Closer to Coaching Deal
In the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, Eddie Sefko writes "the Mavericks and Rick Carlisle are inching closer to an agreement that would make him the team's new coach. While no deal is done, Carlisle said Tuesday that both sides continue to discuss the options about him becoming the ninth coach in franchise history. 'My agent has returned from Europe, and we're still talking,' Carlisle said. 'We're moving in a good direction. Things are moving along. 'A week has passed since Avery Johnson was fired, and Carlisle is the only candidate known to have interviewed with Dallas. The Mavericks have been weighing their options about bringing in other candidates, but if negotiations can yield a contract palatable to both sides, it seems clear Carlisle is the top choice on a very short list.? - Read More...

Although Rick Carlisle has emerged as the leading candidate to coach the Dallas Mavericks, nothing is done yet. "Things are going in a positive direction, but it's not going to be a quick deal," Donnie Nelson, the team's president of basketball operations, said Sunday. "We've just got to be patient. We're both continuing to get information and looking forward to further dialogue." Nelson said there has not been a snag, just ongoing negotiations.
